Public speaking and delivering sales presentations still makes me incredibly nervous and uncomfortable.

Speaking engagements are HIGH Mental strain activities that need HIGH Mental recoveries for me to perform my best. That’s why I block an hour after each podcast or presentation I do to help my mind rest and recover.

Without it – my performance on future tasks won’t be as good and I run the risk of burning myself out.

This is something Sam Dunning and I talk about on his podcast and what salespeople can do to help protect their Mental Health. You need to build awareness around the sales activities and experiences that make you most uncomfortable.

For example:

If cold calling makes you really anxious, make sure you have a 20 minute recovery after your call block before jumping into a demo you have to run for a client.

If rejection really impacts you – make sure you pause and use your Rejection Handle so you can recover before moving forward.

Find that balance between Mental Strain and Mental Recovery.

This will help you perform your best and allow you to use stress to your advantage to grow. So you can turn weaknesses or skills you’re trying to develop into strengths without burning out.
