COVID-19 is acting like a big anxiety monster in sales right now. As a result, there will be days when you won’t be 100%. Some days you might not even be at 50%.

That’s OK, but you have to remember one thing:

When everyone is looking left – trapped by panic attacks and  the anxiety monster – you go right.

When everyone is distracted, you have an opportunity to thrive.

With everyone paralyzed by fear – this is your opportunity to move.

Even if you’re moving at 50% and things are not perfect…

That’s huge – moving at 50% is better than not moving at all.

This is your moment.

During this global pandemic, it will never be easier than it is right now to stand out from your peers, colleagues and competitors.

A time when you can truly help your customers and make yourself irreplaceable.

Show yourself some self-compassion and try this exercise. When you try to be perfect and control too much during uncertain times – sales anxiety likes to takes over.

Defeating the Anxiety Monster in Sales

It’s OK to be nervous, fearful and depressed during these uncertain times, but you need to block out distractions. Take out a piece of paper and pen – then draw a line down the middle of the page.

In one column write down what you CANNOT control and in the other column, write down what you CAN control.

  • You CANNOT control if someone hangs up on you. But you CAN control looking for ways to learn and grow from this experience.
  • You CANNOT always control if a deal blows out. But you CAN control re-engaging a new point of contact in the organization and finding a new way in.
  • You CANNOT control how much stress you face on a daily basis. But you CAN control implementing a healthy self-care routine.

Let go of what you cannot control because these are distractions.

Remember… everyone is looking left and the anxiety monster is making them panic.

They want something better to look at, but can’t find it.

Give them hope by taking one slow step to the right.

Then another and another and another…

Give them a reason to look right and all eyes will be on you.
